Assistant Athletic Trainer

Keuka College - Keuka Park, NY

Under the leadership of the Associate Athletic Director / Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the operations of all facets of the sports medicine program.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Administer proper care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for NCAA Div. III student-athletes that compete within Keuka College’s 16 intercollegiate athletic teams
    • Assist in administration of pre-participation physical exam process / documentation
    • Provide athletic training coverage of practices / home and away athletic events (travel as assigned)
    • In absence of head athletic trainer, the assistant athletic trainers will have final jurisdiction over all athletic training decisions
  • Supervise athletic training room / manage supplies / scheduling of student employees / documentation of medical records / assist with budgeting
    • Supervise / instruct student athletic training room aides – including interviews / hiring evaluation process / proper athletic training room protocols
    • Assist in revision of appropriate handbooks and medical protocols
    • Work closely with team physicians / outside medical personnel / on-campus Health and Counseling services
  • Provide leadership for SAAC / Student Athlete Advisory Council
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with professional staff, coaching staff and students
  • Willing to maintain a visible presence on campus
  • Knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, North Eastern Athletic Conference and institutional rules that relate to this position
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude and appearance at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary trainings and other meetings and committee assignments to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelors required, Masters preferred.
  2. Certified in athletic training by the National Athletic Trainers Board of Certification.
  3. Current certification in first aid, CPR / AED.
  4. New York State Board License (or be eligible) required.
  5. Ability to utilize sound judgment / decision making skills.
  6. Valid driver’s license required.
  7. Must possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  8. Candidate must be willing to work evenings / weekends / holidays as required by athletic schedule.
  9. The successful candidate must maintain yearly continuing education units as required by the NATAOC.
  10. Must have time management flexibility and be able to sustain long work hours including evenings, early mornings and weekends.
  11. Position requires frequent travel, as required by the intercollegiate athletic schedule.
  12. Attention to detail and high standards for quality and ability to respect confidentiality.
  13. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  14. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  15. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
  16. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work on your feet for an extended period of time
