Supv Produce Inspector

  • Develop, schedule and direct implementation through Produce Inspector(s)/Quality Control and date checks by category/temp zone necessary to insure shipment of dated product within SOP.
  • Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to receiving, storage, and shipping of fresh produce.  Address necessary changes with management.
  • Evaluate and problem solve concerns and occurrences daily with sales force to ensure quality of fresh produce to our customers.
  • Work with Inventory Control to assure necessary slot and status adjustments.  
  • Provide technical advice and training to produce inspector(s) with regard to inspections by FDA, USDA, and USF corporate auditors.
  • Assist in the implementation of corporate initiatives such as the Ready-to-Eat program.
  • Responsible for adherence to corporate mandated GMPs/SOPs. 
  • Assist Division's Recall Coordinator in implementing the corporate recall program; respond to recall or withdrawal announcements in order to ensure necessary corrective action is taken.
  • Participate in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Train receivers on proper perishable product handling and receiving.
  • Work with Category Management to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Oversee execution of customer specific date and quality checks as needed.
  • Train night crew loaders on proper methods of protecting produce from the elements. (Physical damage, heat, or cold). Ensure proper rotation of product by training warehouse associates and inspecting perishable items daily.
  • Perform inspections of inbound fresh produce loads as required.
  • Perform inspections of all fresh produce in inventory as required

Education/Training:

Four year college degree or equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Related Experience:

Minimum 5 years Supervisory experience in Produce or other Perishable Receiving and Inspection.  Knowledge of USDA Grades and Standards Required.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of Food Safety and inspection procedures employed by FDA, USDA, and 3rd party food safety auditors.

Familiarity with Fresh Produce Industry, Fresh Produce commodities, and food safety principles and procedures.

Ability to read, analyze, and explain complex documents.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

May require working in a union environment.

Ability to interact with all levels of management and employees
