Mass Properties Engineer

Bell Helicopter - Fort Worth, Texas

The Mass Properties Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of mass properties and center of gravity data.  The Mass Properties Engineer will evaluate developing and mature designs to determine their impact on the air vehicle following industry, military and Bell Helicopter best practices. This position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager, and will work closely with Design disciplines through all phases of aircraft and trade study execution.  This position is based at Bell Helicopter’s headquarters facility in Ft. Worth, TX.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and document mass properties analysis as part of aircraft development activities
  • Support major project updates and initial development activities
  • Work with design engineers to capture mass properties data and maintain the mass properties database
  • Provide regular updates to design and program management regarding weight and cg status
  • Provide reporting to customers using industry and military standard formats

Education Requirements:

-       Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or equivalent - from an accredited university - is required.

Position Requirements:

 

-       Multiple labor grades will be considered for this opportunity:

           Eng II – With a minimum of 4 yrs experience or 3 yrs  Master’s degree
           Eng III – With a minimum of 8 yrs experience or 7 yrs  Master’s degree
           Eng IV – Minimum of 12 yrs experience or 11 yrs Master’s degree
 

-   Previous experience using mechanical design tools such as various CAD software is required. (CATIA preferred).

-       Familiarity and basic proficiency with basic office computer software, specifically the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.) is required.

-       Familiarity and basic proficiency with engineering design definition including 2D/3D modelling, requirement capture and specification development is required.

-       Familiarity with GD&T requirements is required.

-       Previous experience working on cross functional engineering programs where importance is placed on sound engineering judgment coupled with meeting schedule and cost requirements to achieve exceptional results.

-       Must have demonstrated ability to work in a team environment being able to articulate technical data and concepts to a wide audience of individuals of different technical backgrounds.

-       Must have demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a variety of activities and tasks while dealing with change.

-       Must have a strong analytical ability as well as significant level of creative thought.

-       Previous experience working in an aerospace focused on mass properties analysis is preferred.

-       Previous experience working with PLM software such as ENOVIA to drive product lifecycle is preferred.
