Chemical and Processes Engineering Technician I

This position performs and provides technical direction in the performance of complex test procedures In the Chemical and Processes Engineering Laboratory. Functional responsibilities of this lab include chemical analysis, composite material analysis, contamination analysis, coatings research and support of chemical processes for the manufacturing departments. Additional functions include plant effluent analysis, processes research, support of operations of other laboratories in material preparation for bonding operations, lubricant analysis, analysis of metal samples, and finish specifications and corrosion protection plans for aircraft.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Follow, document, and modify complex lab test procedures.
  2. Clear and concise reporting of laboratory test results.

  3. Accurate communication with customers and co-workers.

  4. Provide timely customer test and analysis support to Operations, Engineering, Procurement, and other internal and external organizations.

  5. Mastery of one or more test procedures / laboratory technician tasks, and working knowledge of all laboratory tasks.

Education/Training:
• Associate’s Degree in a Science or Technology path
or
• Verifiable formal training and/or certification in an area directly related to the responsibilities described above.

Position Requirements:
• Working knowledge of laboratory and/or shop skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of chemical laboratory processes
• Familiar with Microsoft Office software suite
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills

Preferred:
• At least 1 year relevant technical employment or project experience
• Direct experience with chemical and processes laboratory testing such as:
o Use of laboratory equipment to perform wet titration analysis of chemical process solutions
o Composite part kitting involving fiber areal weights and uncured resin content determination
o Atom Absorption (AA) Analysis
o Digital Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
o Thermal and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (TMA, DMA) to determine glass transition temperature
o Rheometry
o Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis
o Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
o Hydraulic Oil / Jet Fuel Analysis
