Entry Level - Patent Attorney
Bell Helicopter - Fort Worth, Texas
This entry level position will be based at Bell Helicopter’s Ft. Worth, TX headquarters facility, working under the direction and supervision of an experienced member of the company’s IP Legal Team.
The Patent Attorney position provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience as a Patent Attorney while working closely with innovative and technical engineers. The successful candidate will be highly adaptable in a very dynamic environment.
Position Responsibilities:
• Working closely with Bell Helicopter’s legal and engineering teams on patent-related issues
• Develop IP protection strategies
• Identify patentable subject matter
• Conduct invention harvesting sessions
• Perform freedom to operate and patentability searches
• Manage freedom to operate data and processes for new products
• Identify patent enforcement opportunities
• Various additional IP-related functions
Education/Certification Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics - or a similar science or engineering discipline - is required.
• J.D. from an accredited law school is required.
• Must be admitted to practice before at least one state bar.
• USPTO Registration strongly preferred.
Additional Position Requirements:
• Experience performing and analyzing freedom to operate and patentability searches is preferred.
• Candidate must be willing to take ownership of assignments and persevere to completion
• Must be comfortable working with teammates in a collaborative environment.
• At least one year of experience practicing patent law in a law firm or corporate legal department with a patent practice is preferred.
• Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, including the ability to interact with engineers, lawyers, and leadership throughout the organization.
• Candidate must be able to learn and receive direction from a senior patent attorney.
